Avalanche accidents in British Columbia

Canadian West Coast province, British Columbia, received huge amounts of snowfall over the past two weeks and in the most mountain ranges in the province the snow is still coming down heavily.

A period of generally warm and wet weather keeps the Canadian avalanche forecasters quite busy. The avalanche bulletins issued avalanche danger rating as HIGH for several times over the past month. The situation is very similar in the Northwest region in US (Washington, Oregon).

Avalanche accidents

This weather conditions claimed one avalanche victim already when "a snowboarder was found dead in an avalanche near Golden, B.C., on Sunday" The Vancouver Sun reported. The same day "four skiers were dug out of an avalanche" in Fernie, BC. Both accidents happened within or just outside of the boundaries of the local ski resorts. Avalanche forecasts

According to avalanche bulletins and forecasts from Canadian Avalanche Centre and Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center (USA) natural and human triggered avalanches are likely and the danger rises as more snow keeps on loading the slopes.
