Canadian Ski Mountaineering National Rankings 2007

Canadian ski mountaineering and randonnee racing has its first official racing season under its belt. The four-race ski mountaineering series was officially sanctioned by the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC), as the governing body for this sport under International Ski Mountaineering Competition council (ISMC).

Ski mountaineering randonnee race Spearhead Passage start

The series consisted of races in Sunshine Village (in AB), Nelson, and the Spearhead Passage and the Wind Up races at Whistler (last three in BC). Ranking points were awarded at all four events towards the overall National Rankings.

The male winner of the first ever Canadian ski mountaineering series was Andy Traslin (80 pts), followed by his brother Mike Traslin (75 pts) at second; Aaron Chance and Jeff Colvin tied for third (63 pts).

The best woman overall in the series was American Karen Kingsley (78 pts) followed by Canadians - Melanie Bernier (75 pts), Julie Matteau (45 pts), Lydia Marmot and Julia Niles (44 pts).

If you are one of the ski mountaineering randonnee racing enthusiasts then we would like to invite you next year for the first Mountain Storm - Ski mountaineering randonnee race organized by Backcountry Safety. The event will be held in Fernie, BC in January 2008.
