Our Team

Backcountrysafety.com team currently consists of two crazy wolverines but we hope to grow a bit in the future. (We mean, the team will grow, not us.)

"Why the hell those tracks are so steep..."

Stano Faban

Stano had the original idea to develop a project where people could easily find and learn anything about backcountry and avalanche safety. His skills as a new media designer gave him the confidence and his experience from mountains the drive to start backcountrysafety.com.

Stano gained most of his knowledge about backcountry and avalanche safety from his more experienced friends and from practice. Spending every weekend outdoors since he was three years old taught him a lot about mountains; it made him respect and appreciate them.

He makes living as a new media and interface designer. Stano is also an accomplished triathlete now spending more of his time on skis than in the pool. Desire for fast traverses and ascents keep him in constant training process.

"We probably won't have enough cams. Let's go!"

Palo Pekarcik

Palo comes from climbing background. From his early teenage years he used be a sherpa for alpine huts in High Tatras, Slovakia.

He joined, his friend, Stano in developing this site because he also felt that there is still a big room for improvement in backcountry avalanche awareness.

Palo gained a lot of his experience by attending certified avalanche and guide courses. He is an avalanche specialist of mountain rescue certified in Slovakia. Long term interest in avalanche topic keeps him study and search for new methods of avalanche training.

He is a documentary film director who jumps for any project that slightly bends from ordinary.
